Dikideal moments – Parents silver jubilee anniversary…

snapdeal-dilkideal-blogadda-blogging1

I remember the day, it was my parents anniversary, not just another one, it was the 25th year. Making it memorable was in the air. I didn’t know then what should I do, to be frank.

Making a choice for one person is always tough, now its two, not ordinary people. Your parents who have sacrificed so much for you and then who have made sure that you have earned your stripes in education so that it helps you build your future.

After a long thought and the ad man in me going in a tizzy I zeroed in on Titan, it was one of my favourite brands, and the Bandhan collection has always appealed to me in more ways than one, it was the charm of the name perhaps thats quite the way Indians would love it and it stays the same in any language you say – Bandhan, testing the timelessness of the relationship that was a given and taken for granted those days unlike today.

So after office, I took my bike and the first pitstop was the Titan showroom. I have started earning now and had some savings on me, I go in and check out the items, beautifully strapped and presented in those red and golden boxes and they had a collection to see, I must admit, it’s not easy to la hands on some of the precious machines they have there.

After some window shopping and checking out the prices, I chose a nice set and asked for a gift wrapping the watch (s).

The chosen piece had a nice black dial and in golden  chain and look pretty gorgeous if you ask me. It was a #Dilkideal for sure. You would not doubt a bit less.

I was home in another 20 minutes. Both my parents and my sister was there. Then I presented them the gift celebrating the anniversary. Perhaps it was not the way we had taken us for granted, probably there was no opportunity to celebrate, we had been running in our life.

They were so happy and overwhelmed, it was an occasion to remember. I was thinking why do parents think only of their loved ones, I am saying this because, they have never bothered to buy a nice watch though I remember having my first watch at 6th standard and it went boom the second week when I washed my hand in the school tap. It was a digital watch and it was pretty costly too those days.

Its always like this with parents everywhere, they would give it all for their kids. Btw the watch is still working, obviously they dont have a operating system like men!

Resilience / Resiliency? anyone…

Resilience Define Resilience at Dictionary.com

I have been down and out and how?

One of the worst times was when I lost someone very close and dear to me. Add to that being held liable for the same event, and there was no time to mourn. Legalities continued and took almost 5 years to get off.

Every day there was no sun shine if at all there was it was a bit of hope. Godsend my job was intact by the mercies of some one who I will adore for the rest of my life for being solidly behind me. So those were times when it said you still have HOPE. Yes in capital letters HOPE.

I had to change when the trial was getting on and was jobless in a way after that.

Though these were days of nightmares here’s how I made use of them.

Some of those things I did in no particular order:

1. Took to blogging, even some articles on mouthshut.com. I wrote on everything I could relate to especially R K Narayan or things I felt about.

2. Took to official blogging in a sense, I was blogging at O3- now defunct its a part of indiatimes.com (infact we are trying to get a plugin built so we can download all our works but no one responds from Indiatimes)

The blog was my biggest refuge – at last count I had over 150 written on F1 seasons and also had a prediction league at that. Top it all with a second prize for sports category in O3 Awards.

I made some great friends who are in touch even today.

3. Turned to spirituality, it wasnt new for me, except I would not think about the rituals as a big benefit, but this time I did take to rituals every two weeks fasting and very regularly being at the temple for the special arathi that would be held. I was regular in every sense of the word.

4. Started Reading: Though reading was in my habit this expanded to more of book on motivation, some of the Robin Sharma titles and other came my way. More understanding and getting on.

5. Legal training: I was getting trained to think legally in every aspect of life. What if. I was getting to read and sort articles and help my lawyer friend and keep track of the latest judgement on the certain topic that I was involved with.

6. Very close knit friendship: It was close and very small in number though I had enough of contact and acquaintances as a part of my professional network.

I think I should have taken to physical fitness  or a physical regimen and that would have amplified in a healthy life style not that it was showing anything bad  still looking back it would have made a lot of difference.

So why am I writing this now.? well in case you think you have had your worst moment think about it, almost everyone has had one and its actually the way you bounce back that marks the person you are.

PS: I had wanted to write on this ever since I read a blog from Shailaja mam!

But the immediate reaction was an invitation from our JCI Coimbatore Cosmo chapter for its ID program. The best part was the sharing of the presentation with all members and found it useful to go through that since I was not able to make it.

So I thought I shall pen down some of my own experience during the last 10 years or so.

Akshaya Patra : The food as charity!

I am going to #BlogToFeedAChild with Akshaya Patra and BlogAdda.

There is a beautiful anecdote involving the former Chief Minister of TamilNadu and King Maker of those times, Kamaraj. Once he saw a young lad working near a construction site and he went and asked him why he was working here instead of being at school?

The young lad answered with a query, who will give me food if I go and study.

This incident made an impact on the politician who later made it mandatory for schools to have mid day meals.

It is a psychology in a way and more so because even Swami VIvekananda in one of his speeches said:  “So long as the millions live in hunger and ignorance, I hold every person a traitor who, having been educated at their expense, pays not the least heed to them!”

So when Blogadda announced a blog fest to feed a child for a year it was one of the noble attempts that could happen when you are fast keying in the message on your key board.

The basic fact about the world remains that the there is enough for everyone’s need but not enough for their greed. The other side of it is the rotting of grains in the state ware houses than being used for feeding the poor. Why not we make it mandatory to share the grains to the poor and get it done away with than saving it for posterity and then rains and rats will eat them away.

The name Akshaya Patra has a reference in Mahabharatha, wherein Yudhishtra gets the Vessel called Akshaya Patra never ending (inexhaustible) in a sense, you keep asking the vessel for food it keeps giving.  Only thing is that if Draupadi cleans it up then the food session if you may call it is over.

As for this modern world, it’s the attitude that will make it happen. Subramania Bharathi once vowed we should destroy the world if there are people begging for food. A disparity being created because of men and their actions has led to people going without food.

The easiest way is to allot a part of our grains to feed the poor, donate a part of our earnings to an active working ngo on this front. You know what you could even get the 80G on that on your taxes.

Take some time to visit places where they serve food to the needy. May be a temple or a church or a mosque. You will feel the elevating experience for sure.

The best way now is to write a blog and see a wonderful service of feeding a child for a year. The power of words on your keyboard has the ability to feed a child for one full year as much as this blog.

Promise yourself that when you are out, please dont waste food and also make it a point to buy food for the needy than give money. It will have a lasting impact on them.

I know we cannot take policy level decision but I believe charity begins at home and more so change begins at home.

If each one of us take it upon ourselves to set aside some time and money I am sure this will go a long way in making this world hunger free!

So if you are reading this and think you can make a difference wield your pen, well start typing away and that would be a nice little start we would have made!

Dr. Siva Ayyadurai at SCAD Institute of Technology

Dr Siva Ayyadurai

If there is no innovation then we can be sure of a revolution, said Dr. Siva Ayyadurai during his interaction at SCAD Institute of Technology, near here at Palladam. Innovation occurs when you break rules and think out of the box. He also appealed to young people to take responsibility for their future than look for jobs. India had a bright future ahead with over 600 million people under 25 years of age.

He further added that India needs more engineers and they need to focus on solving the problems which affect the Indian people rather than work for the companies that help the foreign economy.

In his interaction with the students he recalled the story of a 14 year old at an unknown Newark City Hospital, where he was treated an equal and was able to create an Email system for a medical hospital. It was an interesting take from the man himself as he took the students through how the inbox and the outbox was actually the real literal things they had in the snail mail era.

He urged the students to keep in touch world and keep abreast of what’s happening in the world.

He also spoke on the need for students to be socially aware since he felt Innovation can only be achieved with equality and it was an important factor which helped him achieve that when he was just 14. There was a need to create an environment where we can create jobs, create industry and make it happen for the country.

He also stressed the importance of being healthy and that would be helping them think better. He spoke about Siddha one of his interests close to heart. He explained the advent of medicine when it was forced during wars.

On his future plans he said he was working a health system model which aims to cuts the time taken to create new molecules for medicines. He was also planning to put up the medical knowledge of Siddha online for the world to use it effectively.

On a question on privacy and he said it was for the people of the respective country to decide and that would be a democratic decision on whether the governments can track emails.

He also said there needs to be an innovative environment in the institutions to help foster new learning and create new solutions locally.

His review for the last year 2005 season was pretty cool and balanced I shud say.
