Mr. Chidambaram has his hands full…

This time around the Naxal menace is creeping up as a monster and imagine being backed by high flying and well articulated intellectuals, the government will have a tough time to make them see reason.

The reason I am writing this is the CNN IBN Interview of Arundhati Roy and the recent train drama this afternoon.

These words are powerful though I don’t know the repercussions in the long run.  In the course of the interview she said these lines… ” What the Muslims were to the BJP, the Maoists are to the Congress”

Has the Indian democracy a failed state? To me its absolutely true. Ask me why I can say why not!

The so called democracy-lets take a look, the Maharajahs, were a vanquished lot only to be replaced by a few families without title as Maharajahs and todya their claim to the higher post have become a ritual without the real vote behind him. You can always purchase them as if they wer being sold inthe kirana store.

The rich have become the richest and the poor always remained so or became poorer. There are cities and the villages are still dark places to some people.

Another instance of empowering people is the literacy, all these days we have been gettign tthem to be illiterate so that we can always fool them with a freebies and look at how many states govts returned to power on the promise of freebies. We are no Cuba!!! Period.

Theres more that meets the eye. These are not just people being brainwashed into a movement. They are people who are making things happen because they have decided to make it that way.

Unless the governments have an all inclusive approach to the issues we might God forbid, see a bad development into the country in the name of Maoist and Naxals….

The Twitter – will it upstage Google…

As I am writing this, Twitter has once for all made its presence as a day to day news maker, with a legal firm using it and the oldest Twitter-er being found at 102 et all.

It is becoming increasingly popular across rank and file of the internet users and then Google and MS have decided to give the Twitter pages a look in their search in the near term.

While the team at twitter sees this as a great compliment, there is only one thought now on how to monetize the site.

Think about it….me too thinking about that now….

Button wins World Championship

Its all over for the year and with one more race to go, the fan following will be little disinterested. It might be a show of strength for many in the better off teams and may be just another race to the others.

Welcome the champion of the new race, Jenson Button. You did a great job and that was really an effort from a team which just was put together few days before the races started. The team left us wondering for new phrases and adjectives. There was even this rumour mill going around that this was a ploy to garner more eyeballs. Little did they expect that the Brawns would go all the way to the championship in style and when it mattered.

Even before the Brazilian race started it was Vettel who was hogging everyone’s mind screen, I remember once Karun wrote when Force India F1 made to the second place, we fans love the underdogs, and more often than not, the real player has his last laugh as much as it happened with Jenson Button.

Let me admit that I have been the severest critic of this man in no unequal terms, someone who had had the most number of starts, the most over rated driver ever and I could not stand him because he was once Narain’s challenger at British F3. Look at where he’s gone and how Narain struggled to make it to the F1 circuit.

But this year I had a change of heart, you still need to drive even if you had the best of the machine or the external forces played its part. I started seeing him as one more mature driver this time around and the best part was this he had almost closed the championship half way through the season. I do hate him for making the last race an academic one for Abu Dhabi could have been a heated one. On a lighter note, actually we need to give it to Red Bulls for pulling this one, they gave the wrong car to Vettel.

I started looking at him for his charitable ways, and more than that he hid somewhere beneath that unassuming face, his undying thirst to be the champion. Well his time has come and he did it in style.

It seemed destined that he was the winner, and it showed with all other teams trying to decipher the new rules and the diffusers and whatever. Brawns were making merry and made it happen like it was their game every-time they raced. Some circuits were unmistakably trying and then it went on for them.

Mathematically it was almost close and then we need to be sure simply because your F1 car could almost stop at the last corner just few yards before the chequered flag. In all this I do feel a bit for Barichello, the man seems destined to be the best second man to World Champions. He did put up a spirited fightback. I have always bet that Barrichello was the serious contender than Vettel. Except if we did not have the initial glitches that Barrichello faced, this sure would have been the most talked after love hate story in F1 history on track.

This year has a new champion from a new team and at a time F1 is trying to resurrect its image and this does augur well for the sport in genral and fans in particular. Last two years have seen scandals rock the sport hopefully lets not be taken in for another unheard scandal for the next year.

Jenson Button you win hands down and well that’s in the history for now and forever.

Have a laugh…

These are oneliners and though often circulated its ready fun reading this….here we go….

  • Regular naps prevent old age, especially if you take them while driving.
  • Having one child makes you a parent; having two you are a referee.
  • Marriage is a relationship in which one person is always right and the other is the husband!
  • I believe we should all pay our tax with a smile. I tried – but they wanted cash.
  • A child’s greatest period of growth is the month after you’ve purchased new school uniforms.
  • Don’t marry the person you want to live with, marry the one you cannot live without, but whatever you do, you’ll regret it later.
  • You can’t buy love, but you pay heavily for it.
  • Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote.
  • Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.
  • Marriage is give and take. You’d better give it to her or she’ll take it anyway..
  • My wife and I always compromise. I admit I’m wrong and she agrees with me.
  • Those who can’t laugh at themselves leave the job to Others.
  • A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.
  • You’re getting old when you enjoy remembering things more than doing them.
  • It doesn’t matter how often a married man changes his job, he still ends up with the same boss.
  • Real friends are the ones who survive transitions between address books.
  • Saving is the best thing. Especially when your parents have done it for you.
  • Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something
  • They call our language the mother tongue because the father seldom gets to speak!
  • Man to Doctor: Is there any way for long life?
    Dr: Get married.
    Man: Will it help?
Dr: No, but then the thought of long life will never come.
  • Why do couples hold hands during their wedding? It’s a formality just like two boxers shaking hands before the fight begins!
  • Wife: Darling today is our anniversary, what should we do?
Husband: Let us stand in silence for 2 minutes.
  • There is only one perfect child in the world and every mother has it.
  • There is only one perfect wife in the world and every neighbor has it!

I know for sure that e-marketing has come of age even with the cine field exploitng it. I remember the first emailer for the movie, Indravizha a Namita & Srikanth starrer got into my mailbox. This time around its Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja. The emailer is slick to say the least.

See the mailer here

Watch the trailer of this movie of the year and a land mark movie for everyone involved in this mega budgeted in Malayalam.

I have always loved the portrayal of Mamooty and his charm on the historicals is always a treat to watch. Then there is the maestro of all music, Ilayaraja and it is going to be a visual and musical treat for sure.

Watch out for the movie, I bet you could come out satisfied. 🙂

David Coulthard drives an F1 car the Worli-Bandra Sea Link

It was one in the waiting, ever since Narain drove for the Jordan Mumbai has always wanted to test the roads with an F1 car. It was slated after the final GP in 2005, unfortunately Narain had an accident and the fate of the show was also sealed with that.

Another time was when Renautl brought the car to the capital and drove beautifully on the India Gate road. Though Force India had the launch the car was not driven around, but this time it was veteran David Coulthard who did the honours of driving on the road and he did clock almost 260 km/hr. thats awesome given Indian speeds on roads are not more than 120 km/hr.

See the news video of Times now here.

I think events like these will hasten the sped of construction of the F1 circuit in Gurgoan near Delhi and more so will make an awareness of the sport in toto.
