Theres a second season starting in F1

Micheal Schumacher is back, with a freak accident which led to Massa being hospitalised and with fast recovery happening, it will be a while before he can drive the F1 car. Who else can take charge than the Master of the ring, the man himself.

Watch out though some more days to go.

Henry Surtees dies in a F2 race accident

The news was shocking as much as bitter for the fans of motorsports especially when it is has a message of Rest In Peace. I went to bed with an official update from FIA Safety official that Henry Surtees after that crash in the F2 race at Brands Hatch has been stabilized and is in a London Hospital only to see this morning that he is no more.

I have had to watch this F2 series, an Indian intent with Armaan Ebrahim in the race. Only two weeks back we were told of his accident and there was this assurance that “safety” records of the motorsports in general, and especially for the drivers and personnel safety on the track and off it. Armaan crashed and hit the armcore at over 200 kph. He was geting back and did race in the last race yesterday.

Watching last week’s television coverage on F1 with ESPN Star Sports (Official Broadcaster Asia Region), I was really stumped by a viewer question, on how the Brawn GP team was allowed to operate a pit stop without the helmets for its mechs, the footage revealed it true and glare, the incident in question had thrown all safety measures to wind. The answer ofcourse was that FIA would have taken note of it.

Coming back to Surtees Incident, it was not a bit of his fault, how unlucky should that talent called Henry be, with a podium just weeks ago to his name and making his intent on following his father the great John Surtees.

The television video showed how out of nowhere he was involved with a tyre going all the way to hit his helmet and his car going straight crashing and spinning all over.

That a wonderful and great talent has been shortcircuited in an accident, is of great shame to the sports, though we cannot blame anyone in particular.

My deepest and sincere condolences to the family and his team in this moment of grief. We pray his soul REST IN PEACE.

Germanys pride on track
Germany's pride on track

I know its German GP and with 5 native drivers, everyone is looking at them with awe and how would they perform, some expected questions like will they match a certain German called Micheal Schumacher, who too had the power to get things done on track of course.

For once Button must thank the Gods, he is not under pressure to perform, though not logically. Never the less the press and forums this weeked has concentrated on the Five home grown talent and especially the challenger from RedBull, Sebastian Vettel.

In all this the weather man forecasts rains and light showers for sure as on date, which must be happy news for Vettel and Red Bull. There is this sense of expectation because Nurburgring is his home circuit literally, unless of course he is hijacked by home grown expectations in his mind. To me he is a little matured on that count though he did stray a little too wide giving his pole position to Jenson Button on a platter at Turkey. Hopefully we expect he does not repeat it this time.

There is likely hood of rain and already Bridgestone has come prepared on super soft and medium tyres. The race will also be decided on the nature’s terms with a rain or showers during qualifying, we can see a different grid altogether.

All that expectations from German drivers apart there are two German Teams in fray, the BMW and the Toyota. This year has been a little too unlucky for BMW, though Toyota holds a little promise to be competitive.

Will this be an opportunity for BMW to redeem its lost palce in the run up to the Championship, with half the season behind us, it would be interesting to see if any one could actually alter the course of championship.

I can hear the chant of Vettel, Vettel already. The other German compatriots are also geared up to make it happen.

I think there is more fun on track this weekend than that is happening off it..

Roger Federer wins another epic match

Its always a treat to watch Federer and we thought only a Fedex Nadal encounter would be worth every penny, Andy Roddicks proved it wrong today at the Center Court, Wimbledon. Soon after the match was won by the legend Federer as I write this, the crowd went on chanting Roddick Andy and he was moved so much he stood and acknowledged them.

The final match went on till 14-12 in favour of Federer. The legends, Pete, and several others were in attendance to see the making of history and the making of another legend. With 15 grand slams and more to come as Pete put it after the match, he is a history and he is a champion par excellence.

The best compliment Andy had was from his tormentor today Fedex himself, when he said I don’t know this match would have gone to tomorrow.

Andy was gracious though tears seemed to over power him and he was there through out till the end of the ceremony. It was so close and it was so far a miss between the cup and the lip.

And as Federer said in every game there is a winner and there is a loser and today I was lucky.

Great match!!!

Kapil Sibal, India’s new Macaulay

Not everyday does one get a chance to see the newspaper with all great news – all positive and making of history of sorts. It happened today with Kapil Sibal making headlines in introducing a rationale to do away with the 10th Board exams. Added to that is the bill to introduce compulsory education as a fundamental right.

I think these are far reaching efforts, to make people come up the ladder and make it happen for the democracy. I have always advocated that exams were never a reflection of anybodys achievements and unfortunately we have to go by it.

I also had spoken about this during my talk show at Gyan Vani where I said it was a necessary evil and that the society at large was also at fault to make it a real issue.

Now that 10th standard board exams will be abolished we need to have an alternative to look at the children’s ability and attitude to see them through the following years.

On the other side of the newspaper was an article which suggested that the 12th standard marks and the cut off will be on the same day thus making it easy for them to see where they stand.

I should admit that when the Tamilnadu government had abolished the entrance exams how the counseling will go on and so forth, but luckily it has been a breeze till now and no ones complaining.

Then we have the news of Unique ID Plan being headed by Nandan Nilekani, so the government means business in 100 days…

Watch this interview of Mr. Sibal on NDTV.

Ragging still a menace…

I am almost shocked at the recurring instances of ragging inspite of the strictures given by the Supreme Court.

It is pretty much the time of the year when the seniors need to be sensitised as the nature of so called introduction. There have been very many instances where it has been taken to the authorities and of no avail. They feel that the senior’s life and career might be at stake.

The most important thing we need to seek is the surveillance of the hostels which become the most happening place for ragging. The classes and the campuses might look neat and beautiful, but the hostels are the most happening place as far as ragging is concerned and most of the times the culprit gets away with it.

It was totally fine when we did have ragging or the name of it trying to do biking on foot or cycling on foot. Those were moments to break ice and it was the first day on stage. Everybody had fun. Imagine riding a bicycle on stage without actually being on one. !

Lets see that sense prevails and hopefully the seniors if anyone found guilty should be punished so that it may act as a deterrent for others.
