SO Quikr is getting quick at innovation. Ask me why, simple the reason why people are getting on with Whatsapp, well you got ! Its the way people are getting to chat, like fish to water.

I have been a user already and some of the best part of the listing have already been detailed in my old blog post.

And when they announced the Chat as a feature I am sure the company has its customers beat with it. Now to the Chat Messenger NXT across the app and the desktop, thats a big leap for a classifieds site to do that a chat as a part of their service at no cost.

So here the screenshot show the NXT at the right hand corner and you are ready to chat away sell or buy things as you chat.

So why is it that great?? you ask me. Let me explain. Take a look at the screen shot below!

There are many reason but lets take the three which impressed me the most.

1. Real Time : I want to sell it now! Well get on with that on chat. You know you got a customer on line. That’s the easy way it works. You know the party is online and then talk with them once you have initiated the chat. No need to call and then disturb both ways.

2. Instantly Share Images: Well we all know a picture is worth a thousand words – truly put send them as many angles you want them to see the product and convince themselves before they buy it out. I think this is one of the killer ideas to have in the chat. Any doubt will be laid to rest and they can finalize the deal faster. And yeah it is done with a click as easy it can get.

3. Make your contact details private: Privacy Privacy and privacy! Oh forget that, unless you are a dealer, getting our number online is pretty tough. Open to tele-marketing calls and what not, and you might get calls long after the product is sold and many more instances where you just think why did I have to give my number to everyone even if they wont buy the product at the end of half an hour call!

Now that’s not gonna happen again. You decide to take a call only when you want to finalise for sure. Your number remains yours isn’t that a great way to sell or shop?

Apart from that you can archive the chats and also block unwanted chats too. Now who said you need to shout all the way to sell your products online. Chat your way to selling or buying something you want to sell / buy.

The Mouse Charmers – Digital Pioneers of India by Anuradha Goyal #Bookreview

A nice classic if I can call it for the start-up community and the entrepreneur in you. I know the author as the quintessential blogger and this is a nice compilation of the stories that have impacted our life. With the impact of internet and the mobile only going to go higher in our lives we need to know these companies from the inside out. And this book achieves that.

The story and the narration of the companies and the business model and the technology being laid thread bare makes you appreciate the nuances with ease and may be kindle the entrepreneur in you.

After reading this I felt we need more stories like this should be introduced to the young people so they can take the risks and look at the entrepreneurial journey at an young age.

The author has taken the 3 Cs – Commerce, Content and Connectors as the theme and woven a nice story around the customer and the company in question. This will surely be an eyeopener for the readers in a way they are introduced to these companies.

She has got it with the three Cs. Obviously we have more players and I am sure the constraint in the space would be the reason for not getting others in here. Nevertheless it has achieved the purpose.

I would recommend this to any one who is thinking about entrepreneurship especially in the technology domain. Though the times and technologies have changed, the inherent spirit of the entrepreneur and the way he goes about will remain the same.

I am sure you would be able to find your calling or niche and also sometimes make judgement about your business plan when you read this book. You would easily find the answers at ease.

I don’t want to write in with each companies specified here but I am sure these will serve as lessons on both sides, success becuase they have and for us how not to do it.

One thing I must mention is that Indiblogger is also a part of this stories under the connectors. Thanks Indiblogger for sending in this book!

A nice read and highly recommended one at that – startups and those starting up, the time you invest here in this book will be doubly rewarded.

Littering is in our genes!

Just watched the video, very fantastically portrayed ‘chaltha hai’ attitude of the great Indian citizen. So very like the one who dont vote but go around with social media and keep trending things.

Probably this is one feature that doesnt create a divide between rich and poor, the hindus, muslims and christians. One character which makes it a marked Indian trait.

But you send them to the other side of the world they will keep the word and abide by the law. They know they cant get away, from the heavy fines they pay. But here they know how to get away from anything called fine.

Sometimes its a wonder how we don’t even litter them in the dustbin and can see all the waste all over the place except the litter bin. We can keep talking about it and that precisely why I was so happy to learn about The Great Indian – http://greatindian.timesofindia.com/ an initiative by Times of India.

So is there a chance, ofcourse there is and it has to start somewhere and this video excellently depicts the issue, and something else is also happening in the country by the name Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. Possibly instead of watching the video and going off as we often do with all the viral videos, this one must be taken seriously simply because it matters things with us. Probably this can change a lot of mindset and who knows it can also work wonders on the human psyche across the way he/she thinks about himself.

A clean surrounding can alter the way you think and act. Mahatma Gandhi the father of the Nation has said, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness!”

We need to make it cool to be good and have a great surrounding around us. The first part of the work would be to keep the places clean where we use. How difficult is it for us to understand that all the government buildings are built using our hard earned tax money.

Once we get a sense of ownership on all these things there could be a way to get on. Possibly we need to rework the way History and civics is taught to us. Civics needs to be more practical than just some sections on the constitution. There has to be a way we need to tell people that duties exist alongside when we talk about rights and that they go together.

It might seems like an unworkable idea. It has to start with I – for initiative. Make things clean around us, and then extend it to the house, street, community, the district, state and the nation.

So as they say charity begins at home and thats where we can start keeping things in a pretty nice way and work towards better environment.

Let the great Indian video charge us to tell people to stop spraying. Do you know what people had to do to stop this. Literally start Praying, they installed pictures of Gods on the walls to do just that.

Whatever, we need to execute this very urgently, somewhere a start shall be made and the best place is now and around you.

A healthy child makes a healthy home!

The arrival of the child is one of the most cherishing moments in everyone’s home. That moment is a moment of rejoicing for one and all. I have come across this statement attributed to our People’s President, that that is the only day when our mothers felt happy we cried.

And the journey continues for the child at home, everyone is on their toes literally keeping an eye on the child. For the dads its a new experience and they also get to share those wonderful moments alongside the mother helping her with the upkeep of the child and generally taking turns to make the child sleep, play and indulge.

There is always a feeling of euphoria when the child is around, we would feel the magic in the sounds of the cries, the giggle the very effort it puts to make itself heard and what not.

These days everything gets recorded and what not. In all these, the child’s health is of paramount importance. In earlier days we had the luxury of having our grandparents around us to help the new mother and also take care of the health.

We call it ‘Paati Vaidyam’ in tamil which roughly translates to “Grandma’s Medicine”, it could be a potion mix with herbs and ingredients that are healthy and give us the innate and underlying immunity for the child. But these days without those learned and experienced people around us, its become pretty tough to take care of the child in the early stages.

In case the child becomes unwell, the home will lose its charm, since all the activities used to be revolving around the child. The home will be ill as a matter of fact.

Girl from Fatehpur by Sarita Varma

This is a story of Sanjana fondly called as Sana hailing from Fatehpur a town in Uttar Pradesh, and thats where the title comes from. A very simply and well narrated story in the confines of her world, a bit of it from Mumbai and the days to her trip to her hometown Fatehpur for her cousins wedding, there is a lot of travelling with her in real as the author takes you around the Allahabad Maha Kumb and some drives during the big fat Indian Wedding.

This is a story of Sana, her childhood crush Rajan and her office colleague turned admirer Krish. The plot is a simple one in the sense leading to a love triangle, but the way the author has treated it from the perspective of Sanjana is excellent, the character who develops cold feet with her colleague and suddenly finds herself in a bubbly character after she meets her childhood crush and first time turned down love, Rajan.

There is a wedding that happens which only makes her get close to her heart throb, and the unexpected presence of Krish makes it a twist. She has to now be tight rope walk with two men vying for her attention in myriad ways they seem to suggest.

A forgetful incident later and back to Mumbai and her heart still longing to see her crush and her friend Zoya all make this novel a nice crisp one. So does she end up with her childhood crush or will she get on with her office knight in arms! Read it up to know what happens to Sana.

Loved the narrative and there is a rural charm to the characters and its quite easy on you and you could identify them easily around you. Its a fast read and it takes you on a easy ride, along with Sana, her friend Zoya, Krish and Rajan and hold your attention with their strenght and human weaknesses.

I sometimes think it was very short period in all, though we could have had a better glimpse of Rajan / Sana’s past and ended too soon.

Sarita has a fine narrating style and takes you on a journey across the Maha Kumb and a portrayal of Sana that makes you sit through the pages in one shot. Its an easy read and concise read too.

My rating: 3.5 stars

Dear Friends,

I will be writing about the first F1 years with respect to Narain Karthikeyan. Come Jan 31st it would be 10 years since that announcement that Narain Karthikeyan went on to make history as the First F1 driver from India. In his own words, ‘there are fewer F1 drivers than astronauts on earth’ that was an achievement only he could have earned and deservedly so.

As it was about to sink in, and the pulse racing on how it would all go that year saw a great revival in Indian’s fortunes and some near misses. The Australian GP was one of its kind. I can easily recall that qualifying under the rains and Narain was in his elements and lo the he had Schumi the God on the track in his rear view mirror when he started that first race of the reason.

It was a drive for Narain and an aspiration for a billion people lived that moment when he raced past the chequered flag completing the race. Bringing home the car mattered the most. In a nation that took time to understand the sport and with people looking to Narain to win a race, it was all like they say in a race – eventful year for Narain and Indian motorsports.

It was during the Thursday’s press conference Narain was acknowledged by the Master Schumacher saying ‘I saw him drive’. With a billion aspiration on his shoulder Narain set out to race in one of his life’s unforgettable moments. His close knit family travelled to see the event unfold, the Australian fans waving the Indian flags and it was a sight to watch when he was aboard the car during the parade moments preceding the race on Sunday.

I still remember a poster which said ‘Narain Marry Me!’ from one of the fangirl.

On March 18, 2005, the yellow coloured Jordan No.19 was cynosure of all eyes in India glued to the TV screens and that signature Chakra & tricolour helmet was all we could see in action as he set out to drive the race of his life time. Its no mean achievement to be the first Indian F1 driver. History was made! He finished 15th!

We shall relive all these moments in the series starting now. And you cant forget TATA, Speed by Bharat Petroleum, JK Tyres, Amaron and Raymonds and JCB later joined the party!

TATA BOLT: The bold statement from TATAs

The Tata’s journey to excellence continues, after the Zestful introductions it’s now to TATA Bolt.

So it was a pleasant experience to check out the TATA BOLT when it premiered at Coimbatore Brooke Fields under the aegis of SRT Cars the dealers and event managed by Wizcraft. Here I am going to summarise 5 features or combined in no particular order.

Now first things the colour was striking red and the front grille was pretty TATA style. Overall the car looks huge for a hatchback with a wide chrome grill and the sexy eyes for the head lamps! The lines are clean, distinct on the sides and neatly edges to the rear with a nice and well etched rear lamps. The chrome bar at the back makes a solid statement. The alloy wheels add to the sturdy look.

One thing I should also mention is the black matt coated C pillar which makes a nice distinct floating roof, adding a sense of refined finish.

We have already been introduced to this marvel which is powering the Zestful ride across the country. Here it becomes the first in the segment to offer you a multidrive: the Sport, Eco and City modes and choose them at will and according to the roads you are on. Get on the power mode with Sport, maintain fuel efficiency with Eco and choose the City mode to balance the two! Chances are people will be using this multi drive mode with the kind of traffic we are used to and can be useful in city driving condition.

In case you wanted to know the Coimbatore connection to this, it’s the hometown of Narain Karthikeyan, Indias F1 pioneer who was involved in the design of Revotron – a 1.2 L engine giving you 90 PS @ 5000 RPM.

The Diesel counterpart will have the Quadrejet 1.3 L delivering 75 PS @ 4000 RPM.

Interiors:
Inside you have the best of the collapsible power assisted steering wheel with the music and controls at finger tips.

Very nicely done dashboard and console with the ConnectneXt touch screen by Harman and ergonomically well appointed seats. Did I miss the MapMyIndia navigation system on smart phone, and the advanced voice recognition systems.

Very clean plastics if you ask me and the dash board looks neatly done and is refreshing for a change. You have it all in a package thats gonna floor you down and expect the unexpected from TATAs.

Safety:

Think safety you have ABS by Bosch, the corner stability control giving you the ultimate control and add to that twin airbags in the front.

Space:

Then there is ample space in the front and back, there is enough legroom and height for seating tall people also. The backseats are foldable to make for more boot space in case you need it otherwise you have a 210 litres of space to keep things on a long drive. The finish is pretty good and gives an overall look big feel.

The ride height is around 165 mm and should be good enough, I think with most Indian roads.

I am sure TATA has a winner in BOLT especially riding the success of Zest. In case if they can match pricing expectation as they did with Zest we will be seeing more of BOLT in roads in the days to come.

I wish I could do a test drive, well thats for the next week and would give a first hand review on the feel of how it is behind the steering wheel.

The team at the venue was enthusiastic and gave a patient hearing to all those who had questions and answered them to the full satisfaction.

The face of opportunity! #WillYouShave activity

It’s perhaps an awkward way we started our college days but it has helped the personal grooming habits for a fresher. On the second day at College, we were self introduced by the seniors that they were seniors.

Well those were days when ragging is an offence board wasn’t in vogue. Nevertheless the ragging as a culture was more aimed at better relationship building and give a sense of security to the younger lots. It might have been that some stray incidents and stories would have a negative impact on the same.

So in the course of the conversation they introduced us to the basic ten commandments to be followed, while coming to college.

One of them was being clean shaven. You will laugh at the list they set, some of them include wearing rubber slippers to college, no proper bags only the yellow bag that is sort of used to carry cash by the rural folks et al.

But this actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, so much so that we had started a daily habit of allotting the time to shave though unconsciously.

The other reward was the side glances that were obviously directed at some of us from the opposite sex at times. Cloud nine was on earth those times literally, thanking those seniors for these unintended moments.

Soon it became a habit and as the days passed it was the mode of presentation that mattered with a clean shave for an intercollegiate or a dramatics session.

So looking back they have been of great use I mean the diktat of my seniors in the early days.

There would be no reason to think about what to do since we had already got into the habit of being a presentable men without any stubble or a bit of unshaven cheeks!

These came in handy especially during my days at NCC. Your turnout should be the best espcially the shining shoes, the well ironed uniform, and a may I add a shining and clean shaven face. That would be the yardstick for your turnout. The shoes brushed and polished under the candle light glare and morning getting into a nice clean shave. The confidence is overwhelming to say the least. A look into the mirror, and the confidence rises and sets you confident like the flag fluttering high on the mast.

I have been lucky to be a Cultural Officer in all the three years of my NCC camps and when I look back its been the turnout that stand apart. Sometimes it has helped me to be in the limelight to be a part of historic occasion to be leading the charge on the parade grounds and sometimes on stage sharing the wonderful moments.

The best I would say was yet to come, when I got a call for the Combined Defence Services Exam Interviews at 22 SSB Bhopal.

A wash out at the recommendation isnt a great surprise but then our batch went on to get a whooping 12 recommendations that included me!

You look at all those wonderful gentlemen cadets and you know the shine and gleam of the face after a clean shave.

Yes its the best part of being the Gentleman and that was the time they aired the TVC which said, “Officer for 5 years and Gentleman for the rest of the life!”

I didnt make it medically fit, nevertheless it for sure that a clean shaven face brings you the best of the opportunities.

Love is in the air!

Rahul and Ramya now engaged, have been going strong for the past three years and the sparks have only increased in their relationships by the day and every time they met. It was only two days ago they met and as he dropped at her house, he took her hand and kissed her good night.

Everytime her friends would ask how is it going in their relationship, she would say ‘all is well’. And times when some of her intruding friends ask on their physical relationship, she would say ‘all that only after marriage’. It was a surprise for her friends because she was a very broad minded girl having been brought up in a metro and has had access to the best of education and culture and diversity since her father had to travel to the metros owing to his work.

In a discussion one day, when it came to sexual preferences and virginity, her friends found it surprising that she would want to remain a virgin for her husband. They almost laughed it off as a joke. But the past years in her life and moving with her has made them understand she meant it.

When asked why she was not interested in men, she snapped back, ‘I am interested, but no one interests me.’ After some seasons of these statements and answering umpteen number of times, she atlast found Rahul three years back.

Since then the relationship has been going steady and Ramya was also happy with herself and her love life. They would meet every week after work for a date which typically ended like last week Rahul dropping her home around 11.

They had decided to get married, and if when the friend at parties probed they found they were pretty clear about the life ahead and yeah she was clear about what she wanted.

She had a beautiful family and it was her mother who had been her best friend. She had always found her inner voice talking to her. So when the topic of her relationship came up she had said, ‘Do what you want, but do it the best way and you wont regret anything in life!’

And that had been her guiding mantra and she has never succumbed to the peer pressure of having a boyfriend nor sleeping with them. She has always felt that with relationship comes responsibility for all your actions and it was sheer coincidence that Rahul came into her life like a breeze who would be an anchor to her thoughts and wishes. She had seen a lot of her friends go through the rough patches because of all impulse decisions. Sometimes beauty is skin deep and they get to know after a bad patch!

Rahul was happy to wait till she was comfortable and that took the last three years and now they are almost a married couple as they wait for the D day in a few weeks time. He was happy that she was independent and she did not care for peer pressure.

As the day neared she blushed to herself thinking about the day of wedding and the night thereafter. She knew it was all she had been waiting for in the last three years of courtship with Rahul.

When Hello was the last good bye!

I have had the best part of my life with the fastest Indian in the world. Well you guessed it right. Narain Karthikeyan is his name. The fastest Indian was the best speed master you could ever watch in action on the track. But come to city roads, especially the normal roads, the master would get to be a normal driver with a sense of responsibility that is reflective of a true dutiful citizen.

I think that was one of the most important way he had a message – Safety begins with me.

With the advent of mobile phones and other gadgets which have become very personal, everybody is ON literally even while driving. Checking updates on Facebook, Whatsapp, and may be on the BBM, and ofcourse a call to disrupt the smooth drive.

Its quite often the instinct that makes us take calls, not understanding the risk that it poses to us and other people around or on the road. The best part is that even in the most sophisticated cars I have seen people holding to the mobile phone and a slanting head talking vigorously on the phone.

I know there are things which will need your immediate attention, but not that to the cost of a dangerous driving. I recall having paid a fine, for taking a call. This happened some 10 years before. I had just answered a single phrase after switching on the phone. “on my way” was all I said, but then I was already in the sight of the police officers as I turned the bike. That was the last time I took a call on a bike or when driving a car. People have got used to the fact that if I am not answering a call – driving could be one of the reason.

I hold myself valuable to the missed call and to that effect I reply them as soon as I get down.

The word initiative in English starts with ‘I’ and so much relevant to anything we would like to start positive. Possibly smile at people on the road and thank them when they are courteous would make a lot of difference. We need that initiative to start from our side so we can make for a better roads to drive and ensure safe journey.

Nissan has been championing the cause of safe driving and today has touched over 2 lakhs citizens through the initiative – Nissan Safety Driving Forum.

The program which began as an annual activity in 2012 covered three main Indian cities – New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai – and since then has gradually expanded to several additional cities across India.

This year, NSDF all set to cove 8 new cities in Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Vadodara, Nagpur, Chennai, Mangalore and Kochi. The overall reach and engagement levels have phenomenally grown and NSDF has effectively reached close to 2 lakh citizens. It continues to stay committed to its core objective of promoting safe driving behaviour in India.

Did You know you could actually get real action during the event – how safety works?

Through this initiative NSDF aims to make safe driving a priority and also gives knowledgeable insights into driving and other safety features with its interactive activities. This would contribute to a young mobile and vibrant country in the long run.

It would be great if more people came forward to be a part of this initiative and make it happen – reduce fatalities in the roads. Here three cheers to the inititaive

So to achieve a great safe road, some basics that needs to be done irrespective of the fact whether they are mandatory or not, we need to follow these basic rules. Why I used the word mandatory in the previous sentence is because, I hail from Tamil Nadu where Helmet and Seat belts are not mandatory while its mandatory in Kerala and Karnataka! The govt could be least bothered with our lives doesn’t mean we can also be careless. For that matter when has the govt been careful or had worked towards a great roads.

Rule 1. Stick to the right side of the road – In India its the left of the road.

Rule 2: Wear Helmet on a bike and ensure seat belt in a four wheeler.

Rule 3: Never take a call on a ride or a drive.

Rule 4: Don’t exceed Speed limits even if there is on one on the road.

Rule 5: Start early and don’t have to be in a rush.

Rule 6: Follow traffic signal lights – helps everyone especially when the traffic police is not there.

Rule 7: Use headlights judiciously, high beam and low beam only to communicate.

Rule 8: Do not overtake from the left.

Rule 9: Follow all the above and have a great time driving. Life is a journey! Enjoy the drive!
