Branding Yourself…

I have been thinking of late and today found time to write on this favorite topic of mine. Branding Yourself. Lets have a small test. Ask what you are known for among your friends circle, your peers, your work place and of course your clients place. Everywhere people will associate you with an adjective, from good to bad to innovative to maverick to loose talker to nonsense, anything is possible given the circumstances…

So how do you carve that special adjective of positives when it comes to your name. Say if you are a student its much easier. The way you carry among your peers is more than an idea that you wanna be different, not for the sake of it but you want to be really different and stand out in the crowd. May be the way you submit your assignments could be different from the crowd. The way you prepare yourself for a seminar take extra effort in working in a team etc etc will go a long way in making you a brand to reckon with of course among your peers and among your teachers too.

In any profession, the making of brand you is a slow and steady process with real qualities which make everyone envy your potential and more so make them competitive. In your endeavor to make your brand presence felt be careful not to make enemies out there.

Here are some adjectives which could help you being a brand: trustworthy, responsible, smart working, reliable, confident, creative and much more…

Try finding what are the adjectives you are related with. These could be the brand qualities you are looking for.

Will see how to work our way in building a brand in certain special cases one by one in the days to come….

For now, check out personal branding and make a list of to dos and make it known to yourself and make it happen with a small list ofcourse.

So something on an entrepreneur’s mind

That was a pleasant surprise when today morning I learnt that Sarath Babu, the CEO Of Food King, Chennai has decided to take a plunge into politics.

This is one great feeling to see someone who has shown the world to rise from the most downtrodden to the highest order and how by rejecting an offer from MNCs and making idlis. This is in itself is so very adventurous and I know for sure he can be great statesman if the people decide to make him an MP.

I think he should have taken a strategic decision given his success in his business today and most likely if he can win then there is a great hope for Indian politics. Why am so confident is here is a person who still lives at his thatched hutment and knows what is poverty and though he has so many people working for him he is so down to earth and humble.

I did miss a chance to listen to this wonderful and successful entrepreneur at Coimbatore owing to a speaking assignment at a different college at Erode.

I wish him whole heartedly and pray that he makes it to the Honourable MPs list. Then he would know how to feed millions as he is doing today with his Food King.

The Past two Races…

I have been tied up with professional commitments that I could not write about the last weekend at Melbourne. It was one of the finest first corners and then ofcourse the best if you were Jenson Button. It was no fluke if you ask me the lights to flag was indeed an effort well rewarded by the podium. Barichello coming second was the icing on the cake for Brawn GP. What an incredible dream debut. A history of sorts for a team which was not in the list some 30 days ago.

The team did show that the performance on track was not just a fluke, though the lingering thought if Kubica and Vettel incident did not happen does arise, still it would have altered it a quite a bit.

One thing probably the fans are enjoying is seeing the big names in the lower parts of the time sheets which were a rarity for the past few years.

The results were traded so many times even during the Sunday and it did go on and was reverse traded for Trulli and an act of shame was discovered by FIA on Hamilton and then the results were stripped off for Mc Laren. It was no doubt a shameful act and it deserved the punishment.

Even before the Malaysian GP started Nico was wary of the Twilight race so too was Kubica. The fears came true and the race did happen at such Rainy conditions only to be stopped. The confusion at the track does n’t seem to augur well for the F1 as a whole nevertheless the winner this time is again Button after some 32 laps into the race and being cancelled he continues to lead the championship with 5 points added to his tally of 10 from Melbourne.

Will add as and when I find time…

The classic contest for tomorrow

Button and Barichello till some few days were thought to be in their twilight years as far as F1 was concerned but today they were the heroes at the first twilight F1 race held at Melbourne.

It was all the Brawn GP show all the time for all the three Qualifying sessions and they left no one in doubt that they meant business after all.

Lewis was devastated and he will start at 18th tomorrow after a change in machine.

What an extraordinary Friday Practice…

So the things have now come to a reality that the order on the Sunday’s twilight race will be really be somewhat different, though we have another 24 hours to go for the red lights to go…

We had a pleasant surprise in Williams F1 when Rosberg went on to top both the time sheets today. Must be Sir Frank has his work less cut out after his performance today. Nico if he can continue this for another two days the whole paddock is gonna worry for sure.

Ofcourse not to be left behind Nakajima too followed suit and made it up just behind Nico in the first session. The main point could be read into the fact the early gainers here were Toyota as a the machine and Williams as the car.

As we already saw that BrawnGP would be underdogs turned favorites this weekend they were also pretty fast and were in the top five bracket both the times. Once it was Button and then it was Barichello. Now this underdogs would be Williams going by today’s times and may be favourites too.

We can probably spell it out by tomorrow after noon as soon as the Qualifying is over when we get to know the car weights and the load of fuel.

We have reasons to celebrate with Force India too really up on the pace at 9th and 13th respectively. A good sign that Mallya would be relieved to see and be smiling ear to ear. The hard work is paying off for the lower rung teams and the fact is that this year could be sign of things to come and this would in all probability make F1 more competitive and dynamic on the track and ofcourse spectator friendly.

As for the other teams Ferrari would tread into the top ten and then the Red Bull too were good enough for the Williams and Brawns.

Then there is BMW and McLaren still struggling to keep the car under control. We need to see if there could be a miracle to set the things in order for these two teams for tomorrow at the Qualifying.

STR too are lacking in pace with a new car in the garage.

As reported earlier the bets are on Brawn GP to win the races, could that be history with a new rung team winning in its first ever GP. A sure shot possibility exists between now and tomorrow.

One thing for sure Nico would have second thoughts on his going from Williams.

Catch up after the qualifying and lets see how the grid looks like tomorrow for the twilight race at Albert Park, Melbourne.

The First race weekend is here…

The Formula 1 circus as we all love to call it will start at the Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia.

This time around the stakes are high with lot of pace and new systems of KERS in place. Slicks are back, and the rear wings are high and what not.

If testing were any indication there were surprises in store and guess what, the new team from nowhere a few days ago, Brawn GP made the headlines topping the timesheet at Barcelona and Jerez. The other news was ofcourse McLaren struggling to hold on to pace with atleast a second off than the fastest car. Adding to the misery was a crash too…

The betting place has now put another Briton on top, you guessed it Jenson Button to win the Australian GP. We got to wait and see. The best part is that Brawn GP is powered by a Mc Laren Mercedes engine. 🙂

The Ferrari and the BMW are also looking good so too are the Renaults. This season opener is more significant for all the reasons which are off the track….read the article here

The teams are all upbeat this time around and hopefully there should be a cracker of a contest on the race track than ever before. All the drivers hopefully think they can use KERS to their advantage at different times.

The slicks they say are real fun to drive around and at Albert part its gonna be real test of strength and character for the teams as they battle it out for the first win of the season.

Will catch up..

The Open Source matters…

Well let me admit I am a fanatic advocate of Open Source though I do believe that Microsoft has the better for itself. Ever since I got introduced to Open Source, thats when I started working for www.indiamotorsports.com which is my passionate result for racing, and having worked with Joomla it has been my conviction, that I will be voting for open source any day any night.

In India, the government and as well as the developer community is living the dream of having to be on open source…The BOSS system from CDAC, NIC is a case in point.

The Govt of Kerala actually uses only open source in its IT and allied services. I should also point out that the use of Joomla here. All the websites of Govt Ministries are done with Joomla. The latest in the fray is the BJP’s website at www.bjp.org where Joomla has been put to some very sensible design and communication use.

Earlier the Prime Ministerial candidates’ portal www.lkadvani.in was also done by Joomla.

Now the reason why I chose this topic is the Vision Statement by the party we are discussing which has used open source as a leverage and has gone to suggest that in its endeavor to connect with people they will only use Open Source to fulfill that. That seems a great paradigm shift in a country like ours. These I think will go a long way to help tide the entry cost barriers which new entrepreneurs may find tough to cross.

I tend to think this way because as an entrepreneur it has been a dampening factor for them in technology the cost involved are high as far as proprietary softwares are concerned.

Its also good to see that evern corporates have embraced opensource to a great extent. visit Tata Nano’s official website to see how you could leverage Joomla…

Well, well, well… this site works on Word press an open source and well its an open source too… it took hardly half an hour for me to get started with this.

The best part of open source is that lot of minds work together to get a thing done and then there are ideas galore so you can actually implement them with existing codes…

So open source matters a lot and well its time we saw its potential and ask me if I am with the BJP on this front on IT, Well I am…but of course the ballot is reserved for another day….

The Brand YOU

How do you make a mark in your career, workplace, your social circle and the society or community you live in. What makes you distinct the one up above the average and gives you the extra edge to be a reckoning professional. Thinking of all such ideas would make you feel that you have been a brand persona without being too evident and if you can analyse that you will find that you have been associated with some qualities which is akin to brand attributes.

In todays world where it is a over crowded market place even for personal relationship or the work place it is pretty clear that we need to differentiate ourselves to be heard and listened to.

It is this aspect that is shouting you as a Brand YOU.

Come to think of it what are the traits that you think would make you a Brand. Your name is the brand and ofcourse how much leverage does that give you among your peers.

Do a small introspection to see where you stand amidst the core group or are you leading the pack.

Its not only for the Bollywood stars that branding is relevant, it so relevant even to us, the common man.

Recession is in the mind!!!

Well that’s the only headline I could think of after having listened to two luminaries on HR. One Mr. MV Vasudevan, VP HR, Parry Roca and Mr. Sam Chander, VP HR, Henkel India.

The event was a HR Meet, courtesy School of Management, Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore with BusinessLine in toe as the Media Partner.

The theme was if you guessed it – Role of HR professionals during the meltdown phase.

Both the speakers took us on an unusually delightful journey ironical to the fact that word recession is all about being long faced and grim looking scenario.

Mr. MV Vasudevan took us on a journey on how the recession was a mindset, though there might be course correction which is happening otherwise there are recruitment’s and vacancies happening.

He had a great message for the HR professionals in the crowd, to learn the business of the company they were working for. That meant leaving the comfort zone for harsh realities in the market place. He quoted the example of his company wherein the HR people were directly in touch with the shop floor and the marketing wing to see how they were faring as a company. He put it in a wonderful way when he said the door to the board room was through the shop floor.

He had a thought provoking style to start with a “0” or a circle drawn on the board, and wanted the audience to tell him what is there on the wall. Many answers after he said, it could be zero but its pretty simple if you could sense it as the first letter of the word OPPORTUNITY.

Then a break later, it was Mr Sam Chander, who took us through a cool and humorous look at the grim reality. Ofcourse we needed a thorough look and he provided that with both the positives and the negatives of what he termed as the 3G, notwithstanding BSNL’s 3G offering, it was as I found out for confirmation the “Great Global Gloom”.

One thing he sure took a dig with HR professionals was the “Indian Airlines Smile” which lacked the warmth but had to be an action….

With global pressures getting really high and more people being laid of, there was enough that HR professionals could do to make a successful organisation.

We were really convinced that these recessionary outlook is a made up mirror which we want to hold it so we can easily convince ourselves that things are really bad. But again we cannot easily write off the course correction too which is a part of the bargain which we eventually failed to read in good times.

Thanks to the School of Management and the institution which makes it a purpose to see things differently and it pulls out some real magic for those involved. Kudos !!!

Just found something incredible!!!

Blogging has its own rewards, the best person who I would refer would be Mr. Kiruba Shankar, the nation’s blogger of repute as I call him, he is today CEO, Business Blogging Inc.

And today I am looking back and it should be admitted that it helped me on the days of my personal wreckage and it helped me on the best form of writing at o3.indiatimes.com/f1blogs

It was a great experience because I had lot of people visiting it and quite often I was featured on the Front page and it was a great hit. I went on well when my buddies voted me to win the Second best Sports blog or Runners up at O3 Awards 2006, You will find my name as Indian F1 fan (I hold a copyright as Indian F1 fan, being with Mr. Narain Karthikeyan helped), and blogging had helped me tell my views in a forthright and sometime diplomatic way.

I did try the same at blogger though I think it was not happening…

I also thought of my entrepreneurial vernture going down and started this thefailedentrepreneur.blogspot.com
but now seriously I lost the password to continue…

Now coming to this title of this writeup, I was gooooggling for my name
r senthilkumar and senthilkumar rajappan which happens to be full with my surname… not bad the results… though (check it urself)

This is something I wanna share here…I have been a big fan of CNN IBN though sometime I have been a critic too, anyways I think I been privileged to be on the same page as Rajdeep Sardesai, Sagarika Ghose, Suhasini Haider, and well well well Kris Srikkanth….and whole lot of people at CNN IBN….

Please find my presence at this page: http://ibnlive.in.com/blogs/display_blogs.html

And the realted blog at this url : http://ibnlive.in.com/blogs/iday2007/blog_story.php?id=46746
